About Me
I write Sci-Fi and Fantasy. I also write comics.

My influences start with John Wyndham – The Kraken Wakes and Day of the Triffids are still firm favourites. I think Neil Gaiman’s worlds are wonderful, Mike Carey’s run on Lucifer is masterful, and Ursula K. Le Guin is brilliant on every level. I love a good M. R. James ghost story or a Junji Ito horror-fest, but Octavia Butler’s Kindred is probably the scariest thing I’ve ever read.
Other influences: Terry Gilliam’s Brazil, the films of John Carpenter and David Cronenberg; video games many and various; a range of fun modern art from the surrealist landscapes of Yves Tanguy to the experiential wonder of Cildo Meireles.
I’m a big fan of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where I seek out the most unusual acts I can find. I believe that inspiration doesn’t just come from reading, but experiencing a broad range of culture. The voices featured on the Love + Radio podcast are also an excellent source of inspiration and humanity.
I live on a narrowboat on the English canal system, moving every couple of weeks. I’ve seen a lot of England at this point, though my spiritual home is in Edinburgh.
